HISPANIC STUDENT DISTINCTION
Hispanic Student Distinction

UTA is ranked among the Top 100 Colleges and Universities for Hispanic students, according to an annual list from The Hispanic Outlook on Education Magazine. The University was highly ranked in three categories: No. 5 in architecture degrees, No. 24 in total graduate degrees, and No. 26 in total enrollment. READ MORE

FUELING STUDENT ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Fueling Student Entrepreneurship

The Maverick Entrepreneurship Program and Award recently completed the second phase of the Maverick Business Pitch Competition. Established with a generous gift from an alumnus, the program encourages and supports student entrepreneurs and innovation projects at UTA. The five business pitch winners received additional funding ranging from $15,000 to $25,000 to advance their startup ideas.

IMPROVING TEXAS HIGHWAYS
Improving Texas Highways

National transportation officials have selected UTA research that drastically reduces the cost and time spent repairing slope failures on Texas highways as one of 2019’s top projects. The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials named the UTA effort, led by civil engineering Assistant Professor Mohsen Shahandashti, as one of 2019’s Sweet Sixteen high-value research projects. Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist Bob Woodward kicks off the 2019-20 season of the Maverick Speakers Series on Thursday, Sept. 19, with a discussion of “The State of the American Presidency.” The 7:30 p.m. lecture will be in Texas Hall. TICKETS

Legal Leader

The Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Board of Directors has selected alumnus Gene Gamez as the agency’s new general counsel. Gamez, who will oversee DART’s Legal Department, earned Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Science in Social Work degrees from UTA. READ MORE

GIVING BACK
Giving Back

To cap off the first week of the fall semester, UTA students committed their weekend to giving back to the community surrounding campus. More than 200 Mavericks volunteered for nine local charities and nonprofit organizations for Super Service Saturday. READ MORE
