60 YEARS OF ENGINEERS
Since its founding in 1959, UTA’s College of Engineering has been home to thousands of engineering students who have made their marks on the world. More than 34,000 students have earned engineering degrees at UTA. With enrollment rapidly growing, new programs being added, and record-breaking research funding rolling in, the college is poised to become an education and research powerhouse as it enters its next decade. ALUMNA AT AHA
Leading nonprofit marketing strategist, executive consultant, and UTA alumna Katrina McGhee has joined the American Heart Association’s nationwide leadership team as executive vice president of marketing and communications. McGhee, who worked previously for the association, the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health and one of the world’s leading voluntary health organization brands, returns following notable career success in marketing and executive consultation. UNDERWATER ARCHAEOLOGY
The Advisory Council on Underwater Archaeology (ACUA) has elected Ashley Lemke, assistant professor of anthropology at UTA, as chair of the international advisory body. The election signifies Dr. Lemke’s emerging leadership and proven innovation in the field of underwater archaeology, which examines the human past through artifacts, structures, and remains found beneath the water. The ACUA works to educate scholars, governments, sport divers, and the general public about underwater archaeology and the preservation of underwater resources. READ MORE

STORM PROTECTION
Nur Yazdani, a professor of civil engineering at UTA, is developing a web-based tool that will help stakeholders properly design home slab elevations to protect homes and possessions against flood waters in future storms. The competitive, two-year, $450,000 award is from the Texas Sea Grant program. READ MORE

Jennifer Zhang, a UTA professor in the College of Business’ Department of Information Systems and Operations Management, has written a paper that estimates the value of images in predicting the success of crowdfunding projects. Caroline Krejci, industrial engineering assistant professor at UTA, is part of a research team creating simulations that could result in more sustainable cities.
