A LOOK AT WHAT’S HAPPENING AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT ARLINGTON

STUDENT AT RENOWNED LAB
Student at Renowned Lab - Matthew Fiedler

Matthew Fiedler, a junior exercise science student at UTA, has earned a summer position as a research course assistant at the renowned Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL). He will assist with instruction of a physiology advanced research training course at the lab for seven weeks this summer. Highly adept in imaging techniques, Fiedler will help professors in the classroom and with hands-on microscopy lessons. Each year, MBL courses attract a diverse population of approximately 500 graduate students and postdoctoral researchers from more than 300 institutions in over 30 countries. READ MORE

ENGINEERING HONOR
Protecting Soldiers' Brains

Ashfaq Adnan, an associate professor in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at UTA, has been named a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Dr. Adnan, who has been at UTA since 2010, was honored for his “significant contributions to the field of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and multiscale mechanics of biological, bioinspired, and engineered materials.” He has been involved in more than $2.35 million in research grants since he joined UTA in 2010. MATHEMATICS EDUCATOR
Mathematics Educator - Candace Joswick

Candace Joswick, assistant professor of mathematics education at UTA, has been accepted into the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators’ (AMTE) Service, Teaching and Research (STaR) program for early career mathematics educators working in higher education. Dr. Joswick started as a math teacher for K-12, which sparked a passion for research in mathematics education practices and policies that influence the classroom. “I’m very much looking forward to sharing all of the exciting things happening in mathematics education here at UTA with new colleagues in this induction program,” she said. ART GLASS SALE
Art Glass Sale

Save the date for UTA’s Annual Art Glass Sale, Saturday, April 4, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at UTA's Studio Arts Center. Nearly 2,000 works will be available for purchase, ranging from $5 paperweights to multi-thousand-dollar collector artworks. There will be a raffle, live glassblowing demonstrations, and a silent auction. Sale proceeds support UTA’s glass art program and its students. READ MORE

EAGLES CONCERT
Eagles Concert

UTA’s nationally recognized A Cappella Choir performed with American rock band The Eagles at a recent concert in Dallas. The choir sang a song with the band Feb. 29 at American Airlines Center. The Eagles stopped in Dallas as part of their Hotel California tour, during which they played their famous 1976 album from beginning to end.
