Tickets available now for Fareed Zakaria

Economic and political columnist Fareed Zakaria wraps up the Maverick Speakers Series season with "The Politics and Culture of the Global Economy" 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, at College Park Center.

Zakaria is widely respected for his thoughtful analysis and ability to spot economic and political trends. He is host of Fareed Zakaria GPS, CNN’s Peabody Award-winning flagship international affairs program, contributing editor at The Atlantic, and a Washington Post columnist. His latest book, In Defense of a Liberal Education, debuted at No. 6 on the New York Times best-seller list.

VIP packages include a private dinner and photograph with the speaker. Preferred seating has front-of-the-line access to the venue. The lecture is free for students, faculty, and staff and costs $5 for community members.

UTA, Grand Prairie ISD partner to add new bilingual, ESL teachers to local classrooms

UTA and the Grand Prairie Independent School District are partnering to offer high school students a streamlined path to a four-year degree in education along with a teaching certificate, which not only cuts down on the time and cost to obtain a college degree, but also addresses a chronic shortage of bilingual and English as a Second Language, or ESL, teachers in local classrooms. UTA and Grand Prairie ISD Friday announced the formation of the Education and Leadership Preparatory Program, which is focused on recruiting and enhancing a teaching workforce that will serve the community. New UT System directory created to help collaborations

A UT System-wide employee directory has been created in response to faculty and staff recommendations during the UT System's organizational assessment. The directory can enhance collaboration between employees at different UT System institutions. Sign in, select UT System-wide Directory, then search for any other system employee by last name or institution.


SAC hosts food drive for AISD students

The Staff Advisory Council is collecting non-perishable food to benefit AISD students during spring break. Bring donations of canned meat and soups and peanut butter to Room 242, Nedderman Hall; Room 305, Carlisle Hall; Room 101, Maverick Activities Center; and Room 102, University Hall. Deadline for donations is Wednesday, March 1.
