Dr. Bowling joined TI in 1980 as a process control engineer in the TI Dallas MOS-2 wafer lab. From 1982 to 1987, he was a member of the technical staff in the TI Central Research Labs’ Materials Science Laboratory. His research focused on particulate contamination control, wafer cleaning, and process control in semiconductor process technology.

In 1987, he was elected senior member of the technical staff. From 1987 to 1993, he was a branch manager for process development in TI’s Semiconductor Process and Device Center, and then became the department manager for process development in TI Silicon Technology Development. He moved to his role as manager of External & University Research in 2001. In 2002, Dr. Bowling was elected TI Fellow – one of only 60 within TI.

Dr. Bowling serves on several advisory boards and committees, including the SRC Executive Technical Advisory Board, the SEMATECH Executive Steering Council, the Stanford University Center for Integrated Systems Advisory Committee, the MIT Microsystems Industry Group Advisory Committee, and the State of Texas TxAN (Texas Alliance for Nanotechnology) advisory group.
