Wes Jurey was appointed President and CEO of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce in October 2001, having previously served as President and CEO of the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce since 1990. Within the first six months of his tenure, the Chamber launched the Arlington Research & Technology Initiative, a strategic plan for technology-led economic development that comprises seven projects to be implemented by 2007.
One of the initiative’s first projects, the Arlington Technology Incubator, was established in April 2003 in partnership with University of Texas at Arlington. Modeled after the Stanford Research Institute, the Incubator serves as a facilitator, connecting the business community and private sector to the University identifying commercialized technology. The Incubator is supported by the U.S. Department of Commerce through its Economic Development Administration.
Mr. Jurey’s career in non-profit management includes the Methodist Church, the Oklahoma Department of Institutions, the YMCA, the Boy Scouts of America, and Chambers of Commerce. He is a graduate and former faculty member of the Boy Scouts of America’s National Executive Institute and is a Certified Fundraising Practitioner.
He also serves on the advisory boards of UT Arlington’s College of Business, the Southwestern Regional Advisory Council of Fannie Mae, the UT System Metroplex Council, and the Alliance for Higher Education.
