The Engineering Cooperative Education Program was instituted to satisfy the need for undergraduate students to gain practical work experience in addition to academic knowledge. This office will also assist with master's-level internships.

The cooperative method has proven to be exceptionally effective in bringing together future employees and companies in a way that is beneficial to all parties. Companies gain well-educated, relatively short-term employees with the latest knowledge and training. Students gain first-hand experience and a preview of the work-world that they will be entering. Since its inception, the Engineering Cooperative Education Program at UTA has gained the endorsement of numerous companies in the Dallas/ Fort Worth Metroplex and elsewhere.

The program offers two options to provide cooperative work experiences:

  • Alternating Option – students work full-time on alternating semesters.
  • Parallel Option – students work part-time while attending school.
Internship positions, which are usually only a semester in length, are another opportunity. Summer work options are also available.

Employers may list co-op and internship positions with the Engineering Co-op Office and receive assistance in locating students who meet employers’ specific needs in the various engineering disciplines. Employers may list positions for students on an on-going or one-time basis, depending on their needs.
