The Bioengineering Department of The University of Texas at Arlington seeks candidates for a tenure-track assistant professor position starting in Fall 2010. The desired specialization for the position is in medical ultrasound, preferably in an area combining ultrasound with optical imaging. For example, candidates having expertise in photo-acoustic, acousto-optic, or ultrasound tagged photon imaging would be of interest. However, other medical ultrasound areas will also be considered. Candidates must have good academic qualifications and stature to qualify for the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate is expected to establish a vigorous externally funded research program, teach graduate and undergraduate courses, and perform university service.

The University of Texas at Arlington's College of Engineering provides the most comprehensive engineering program in North Texas and one of the most comprehensive programs in the nation with eight baccalaureate programs, 12 master's and 9 doctoral. The college has over 3,700 students and eight departments: Bioengineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering, Material Science and Engineering, and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Importantly, the Bioengineering Department has a joint program with The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, as well as on-site lab space for its imaging faculty, thus providing excellent opportunities for collaboration with clinicians.
The College of Engineering is in the midst of a major expansion program that includes three new engineering construction projects: the Engineering Research Building, the Civil Engineering Laboratory Building, and the Engineering Laboratory Building. Over the last eight years, faculty size has  increased from 100 to over 160, and research expenditures have increased from $12 million to over $40 million annually. The new hire will have a brand new laboratory space at the Engineering Research Building.

The university is located in the center of the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex (the nation’s fourth largest metropolitan area with a population of over 6 million). The Dallas-Fort Worth area is home to two major medical schools and several nationally recognized medical research facilities. The college fosters a collaborative and collegial culture with strong interdisciplinary research teams among departments and ties to the region’s extensive number of high technology companies, hospitals, medical schools and medical research centers.
Applications including a curriculum vitae, cover letter, and the names of four references will be accepted through online submission. Women and minorities are especially encouraged to apply. The University of Texas at Arlington is an Equal Opportunity & Affirmative Action Employer. This is a security sensitive position and a criminal background check will be conducted on finalists.
