Greeting from UT Arlington, home of the Southwest Regional FTC Championship!

Due to the outstanding growth of FTC teams in Texas last year, for the 2011-2012 season of FTC we have added two regional championships in Texas.  In order to effectively manage the teams across Texas and try to maximize their potential to compete, we have divided the state into four regions. The Southwest Regional Championship at UT Arlington will be the north eastern Texas championship and in this region this year we have instituted a system of four qualifying tournaments leading to the regional championship.  If you are a newly registered FTC team, please see the north east regional page linked here for more information about these qualifying tournaments and what you need to do to play in north Texas FTC!

Also don’t forget  that new and returning Texas teams can apply for grants from FIRST in Texas so check that resource out at firstintexas.org.  We look forward to a great year with FTC!  Thanks!

What is FIRST Tech Challenge?

FTC is designed for those who want to compete head to head, using a sports model. Teams of up to 10 students are responsible for designing, building, and programming their robots to compete in an alliance format against other teams. The robot kit is reusable from year-to-year and is programmed using a variety of languages. Teams, including coaches, mentors and volunteers, are required to develop strategy and build robots based on sound engineering principles. Awards are given for the competition as for well as for community outreach, design, and other real-world accomplishments.
