Student Information

  • The Spring 2014 Commencement Ceremony will be held at the College Park Center (CPC).
  • Check-in at CPC will open at 1:00 p.m. Graduates should arrive no later than 1:45 p.m. so that we may get you checked in and lined up.
  • Graduates must enter the CPC through the WEST ENTRY near the intersection of Pecan Street and 3rd Street. ONLY GRADUATING STUDENTS WILL BE ALLOWED TO ENTER THROUGH THESE DOORS.
  • ALL PERSONS ENTERING COLLEGE PARK CENTER MUST HAVE A TICKET, INCLUDING GRADUATING STUDENTS! Be sure to have a photo ID with you: Driver’s License, MavID card, etc.
  • A staff member will direct you to the Practice Gyms. Bachelor's degree candidates will assemble in Practice Gym B, and Master's and Ph.D. degree candidates will assemble in Practice Gym A.
  • Doctoral Degree Candidates:
    • Check in at the registration in Practice Gym A.
    • You will receive a card with your name, degree, dissertation title and supervising professor on it.
    • Find your color-coded row for the PHDs. Students will line up by department.
    • Listen to instructions provided by the announcer. When the announcer calls attention, students will form a single-file line and prepare to leave the gym in order.
    • You will follow the line to your seat.
    • The order of the program: PhDs, Master’s, Bachelor’s
    • You will be instructed when to rise and go to the stage by a coordinator in a black gown.
    • You will hand the announcer your name card and proceed across the stage when he begins to read your name with your hood over your arm. Do not wait until he is finished reading your name to begin moving.
    • Your supervising professor (or their substitute) will meet you mid-stage. You will hand them your hood. You will turn around to face the audience and bend low at the knees so that they may put the hood over your head. Once your hood is on, your supervising professor and the associate dean will shake your hand, and the dean will give you a diploma cover.
    • Proceed across the stage and exit via the ramp on the opposite side.
    • A green screen is set up offstage for one last photo. You will then be directed back to your seat by another coordinator in a black gown.
  • Master’s Degree Candidates:
    • Check in at the registration in Practice Gym A.
    • You will receive a card with your name and degree on it.
    • Find your color-coded row by the sign for your department. Students will line up alphabetically by last name.
    • Listen to instructions provided by the announcer. When the announcer calls attention, students will form a single file line and prepare to leave the gym in order.
    • You will follow the line to your seat.
    • The order of the program: PhDs, Master’s, Bachelor’s
    • When the doctoral candidates have finished, you will be instructed when to rise and go to the stage by a coordinator in a black gown.
    • You will hand the announcer your name card and proceed across the stage when he begins to read your name. Do not wait until he is finished reading your name to begin moving.
    • Your department chair will shake your hand and then the dean will give you a diploma cover.
    • Proceed across the stage and exit via the ramp on the opposite side.

  • Bachelor's Degree Candidates:
    • Check in at the Registration in Practice Gym B.
    • You will receive a card with your name and degree on it.
    • Find your color-coded row by the sign for your department. Students will line up alphabetically by last name.
    • Listen to instructions provided by the announcer. When the announcer calls attention, students will form a single file line and prepare to leave the gym in order.
    • You will follow the line to your seat.
    • The order of the program: PhDs, Master’s, Bachelor’s
    • When your department is called, you will be instructed when to rise and go to the stage by a coordinator in a black gown.
    • You will hand the announcer your name card and proceed across the stage when he begins to read your name. Do not wait until he is finished to begin moving.
    • Your department chair and Associate Dean Peterson will shake your hand and the dean will give you a diploma cover.
    • Proceed across the stage and exit via the ramp on the opposite side.
    • A green screen is set up offstage for one last photo, then you will be directed back to your seat by another coordinator in a black gown.

ALL GRADUATES:

ATTIRE:

  • You must wear regalia (cap and gown) to participate. Master's and Ph.D. students must also have hoods. NO EXCEPTIONS. Master's students may don their hoods before or upon arrival. Ph.D. students will be hooded on stage.
  • You must purchase your regalia from the bookstore. Please try on your gown at least two weeks prior to the ceremony so that if it does not fit, you may exchange it for the correct size.
  • Ph.D. graduates must order their gowns well in advance, as all Ph.D. robes are now UTA-Specific and take additional time to be custom made.
  • Your clothing under your robe should be business or business casual.
  • Participants should wear COMFORTABLE SHOES. You will be walking from the practice gyms into the arena, and up and down ramps at the stage.
  • Graduates should not bring purses or plan to carry anything with them into the arena. You will not be permitted to leave any of your belongings in the practice gyms during the ceremony.

DURING THE CEREMONY:

  • Cell phones and pagers must be turned off.
  • No outside food or drink will be permitted in College Park Center. Concessions will be available for sale to families and friends watching the ceremony. Graduating students may not have food or drink with them in their seating area.
  • All graduates and their guests must remain for the entire ceremony out of respect for all university graduates.
  • The possession or use of alcohol, noisemakers, firecrackers, balloons, flags, banners or illegal substances is strictly prohibited.
  • Any graduate or guest who is excessively disruptive during the commencement ceremony will be removed from College Park Center.

AFTER THE CEREMONY:

  • Graduates must immediately exit the building following the ceremony and meet their family and friends at Moritz Plaza, on the North side of the College Park Center.
