CONFERENCES: CPTT 2009 was held in China

From Oct. 19-21, the first International Conference of Pipeline and Trenchless Technology (ICPTT) was held at the Regal International East Asia Hotel in Shanghai, China, which was cosponsored by China-U.S. Joint Center for Trenchless Research & Development (CTRD), ASCE Pipeline Division, China Society for Trenchless Technology, and the Center for Underground Infrastructure Research & Education (CUIRE) and provided a world forum for 80 oral presentations and poster discussions of 227 papers published in the ICPTT Proceedings.

Woman released after bail reduced (CSE’s Dr. Reyes)

ARLINGTON — A 50-year-old Arlington woman accused last month in the shooting death of her husband has been released from jail after her bail was reduced last week from $200,000 to $35,000, her attorney said Monday. Colette Reyes’ bail was reduced during a hearing Dec. 1, said Wes Ball, Reyes’ attorney.

UTD to join biomedical engineering program (BME program with UTSW)

A big race for tiny research at North Texas universities (EE’s Dr. Magnusson)

Executives and researchers at some of the region's private companies and at UT-Arlington, the University of Texas at Dallas and the University of North Texas in Denton are determined to make North Texas a major player in this field. To do that, the region must establish itself against leading nanotechnology research institutes, such as Rice University in Houston, and technological titans, such as those in Silicon Valley in California and the greater Boston area, experts say. At stake are billions of federal and investment dollars. China, Japan, Germany and Russia are also in the nanotechnology race.
