Lois Jeannine Sasser

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Lois Jeannine Sasser, 78, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in French Mortuary Westside Chapel.

Ms. Sasser was born Oct. 10, 1929, in Hereford, Texas, to Pearl and Rebecca Singleterry. She grew up on a farm in Pleasant Hill. Jeannine attended Hereford High School and the University of Colorado. She married Pat E. Sasser on Nov. 13, 1949, and they made their home in Amarillo, Texas.

Ms. Sasser was actively involved in her church in Amarillo, as well as volunteer work at a local hospital. She later moved to Red River and became owner/operator of Porky's BBQ restaurant from 1980 to 1985. In 1986, she moved to Albuquerque, near her family, and worked as payroll clerk for Noel Co.

Ms. Sasser's greatest love in life was her Lord, as well as her children and grandchildren. She also deeply loved the mountains in the Red River and Taos areas, along with cooking, movies, trout fishing, dancing, country-western music and her beloved animals.

Ms. Sasser's life centered on meeting new people (she never met a stranger) and standing up for what she believed in. She demonstrated unconditional love for her family and acceptance of people down on their luck. We will miss her dearly.

Survivors include four children, Pat K. Sasser and wife Karen of Amarillo, Valerie Hall and husband Richard, Erin Noel and husband Phil, and Shane Sasser, all of Albuquerque; and 13 grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to a memorial fund set up in Ms. Sasser's honor, New Life Center for Family Development, 8338 Comanche Road N.E., Albuquerque, NM 87110.

Friends and family are invited to a reception after services from 1 to 3 p.m. at 5561 Eakes Road N.W.

Mildred McElroy

CLOVIS, N.M. - Mildred McElroy, 92, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Parkland Baptist Church with Dr. Herbert Bergstrom officiating. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories by Muffley Funeral Home.

Mrs. McElroy was born Feb. 14, 1916, to Robert Lincoln and Margaret Elizabeth Barbers Wells in Causey. She married Fae Allen "Pete" McElroy on Dec. 19, 1935.

Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Smith; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

T-Nina Nelson Coats

T-Nina Nelson Coats, 65, of Amarillo died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008.

Celebration of life services will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday in Amarillo Covenant Presbyterian Church by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.

Mrs. Coats was born July 17, 1943, in Claude to T.B. and Nina Nelson. The family later moved to Amarillo, where T-Nina graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1961. She married Larry J. Hall in 1963, and on Dec. 16, 1965, she gave birth to twin boys, Larry Todd and Paul Jeffrey Hall. On July 28, 1990, she married Richard K. Coats.

In 1973, T-Nina began a career in advertising that spanned 35 years. In February of that year, she started at Ad Image Inc., as bookkeeper, advancing to business manager during her six-year stay. Then, in 1979, she moved to KFDA-TV as bookkeeper, advancing to sales advertising representative. In October 1985, she became a sales representative at KCIT-TV until 1987, when she became the media buyer and account executive for Dye, Boyd and Associates. She later opened her own media buyer service, Media Connexion, which she operated until her death.

T-Nina was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, was a Big Sister and supported AIDS awareness. She was a 17-year member of the Amarillo Advertising Federation, where she was treasurer for seven years and supported many of the Ad Club Activities, such as the Gridirons and ADDY award events. She also received the Advertising Club's Silver Medal Award. T-Nina was also a member of the Presbyterian church in Clarendon and Childress.

T-Nina also liked to add to her many accomplishments that she once sat on Willie Nelson's lap.

She was preceded in death by her parents, T.B. and Nina Nelson; two brothers, Maxie Layton and Paul Gene Nelson; and twin grandsons, Spencer and Taylor Hall.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Coats; two sons, Todd Hall and wife Kelly of Amarillo and Jeff Hall and wife Shelena of Frisco; two grandsons, Dylan and Ethan Hall; a niece, Londa Nuzum and husband Shane of Panhandle; four aunts, Lena Freeze, Mary Ida Blyth, Shirley Osburn and Veda McKay; three great-nephews, Trey, Wesley and Tyler; and numerous cousins.

The family suggests memorials be to BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79105; or First Presbyterian Church, 317 Commerce St., Childress, TX 79201.?

Robert E. "Bob" Mathiasmeier

Robert E. "Bob" Mathiasmeier, 75, of Amarillo died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008.

Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Monsignor Harold Waldow as celebrant. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.

Bob was born April 9, 1933, in Fort Madison, Iowa, to John and Emma Auge Mathiasmeier. He honorably served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Iowa. After living in Burlington, Iowa, Bob moved to Amarillo in 1974. He retired in 1991 from Pantex, where he was a production supervisor.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Mathiasmeier; his second wife, Debbie Mathiasmeier; a son Robbie Mathiasmeier; his mother-in-law, Mable Swinney; a brother-in-law, Michael Dworzack; his parents; and four siblings.

Bob married Sue Mann of Amarillo on Oct. 10, 1986, and they would have celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary this year. Together, they shared many wonderful years.

Bob loved sports. He got special enjoyment from coaching his own children, but was even happier when he got to watch his grandchildren. He loved his family dearly and was so proud of all of them. Individuals who worked with and for him often commented about his skills as a supervisor. Bob was described as fair and honest in his dealings with his employers and employees. His children seem to have inherited many of these respectable traits.

Bob was so glad to be back in Texas. He often said that he "didn't want to die in New Mexico," and we're thankful he made it back to the state he loved so much. These simple words express our feelings about Bob: Because he was so greatly loved, he will be greatly missed.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Kay Moeller and husband Jim of Burlington and Sue Hudson and husband David and Kelly Mathiasmeier and boyfriend Kelly Turnage, all of Amarillo; two sons, Mark Mathiasmeier and wife Terri of Overland Park, Kan., and Tom Mathiasmeier and wife Colette of Katy; a stepdaughter, Carey Peavey and husband Jim of Amarillo; a stepson, Scott Mann and wife Tekla of El Paso; a sister-in-law, Sarah Ray and husband Don of Amarillo; 11 grandchildren, Matt and wife Robin Moeller, Monica Moeller, Jimmy Denholm, Brian and Sara Hudson, Josh and Maegan Mathiasmeier, Emma, Ben, Jacob and Luke Mathiasmeier; six stepgrandchildren, Kate and Peyton Peavey and Reese, Caroline and Walt Mann; two great-grandchildren, Kaylin and Ethan Moeller; and his dearest companion and four-legged best friend, Peppy.

Ida Mae Gorsline

Ida Mae Gorsline, 91, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Monsignor Joseph Tash officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery.

Mrs. Gorsline was born Feb. 21, 1917, in Grosse Point, Mich. She married Gene Wade Gorsline in 1943. She earned a bachelor's degree from Wayne University in Michigan. She had resided in Amarillo since 1951.

Mrs. Gorsline was a member of PEO Chapter CV, and served on the board of directors of the Brumley Foundation, Amarillo Symphony board, Amarillo College Foundation and Adult Women's Services at Amarillo College. She was an honorary member of Downtown Rotary Club (a multiple Paul Harris Fellow) and the American Heart Association. She was life member of the Amarillo Art Force and the Amarillo Symphony Guild. She was also a member of the Lone Star Ballet, Amarillo Museum of Art, Amarillo Botanical Gardens, Amarillo Opera and KACV board of directors. She was a miniaturist and a member of the Mini Casa de Amarillo.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993 and four sisters.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Devin Douthit

Devin Douthit, 29, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2008.

Memorial services will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.

Devin was born Sept. 25, 1979, in Amarillo to Joan and David Douthit. He graduated from Tascosa High School and attended Front Range Community College in Boulder County, Colo. Devin was a dental lab technician and employed by BioCeramics Limited.

Devin truly enjoyed the game of golf with family and friends. He was able to see and catch fish like no one else. He was considered by friends to be courageous, adventurous, fearless and lucky. He was a loving son and brother.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jack Douthit; his grandparents, Jake and Alma Poirot; and a cousin, Ryan Douthit.

Survivors include his parents; a brother, Nic Douthit of Boulder, Colo.; his grandmother, JoAnn Douthit of Amarillo; and numerous aunts and uncles from the Douthit and Poirot families who all loved him most dearly.

Friends and family are invited to gather beginning at 4 p.m. Friday at the home of his parents, David and Joan Douthit.

Trumon R. Meyer

Trumon R. Meyer, 85, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Arden Road Baptist Church with the Rev. Dale Bigham, pastor, officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40.

Trumon was born Dec. 22, 1922, in Marshall, Ark., to William and Rosa Jackson Meyer. He graduated from high school in 1941 and later joined the U.S. Army. He served during World War II in Germany and was with the 78th "Lightning" Division Anti-Tank Company, 309th Infantry. He was in the Battle of the Bulge and was one of the first American troops to cross the Rhine River. He was honorably discharged in January 1946.

He married Vircile "Shorty" Jenkins in February 1947. The couple lived in Borger for 40 years before moving to Amarillo in 1986 after his retirement from Phillips Petroleum as a maintenance supervisor for more than 44 years.

He was a member of Arden Road Baptist Church for 17 years and was very active in his Sunday school class. He was a kind and caring man who touched the lives of many people who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Larry Ray Meyer; and a sister, Roselea Heflin.

Survivors include four brothers, Walt Meyer, Albert Meyer and wife Betty, and Dene Meyer and wife Carolyn all of Borger, and Gene Meyer and wife Ann of Madill, Okla.; a sister-in-law, Susie Doke of Yukon, Okla.; and numerous nieces, nephews and very dear friends.

The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Barbara Lafon Peek

Barbara Lafon Peek, 64, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Billy Wolf, cousin and minister, officiating. Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery.

Barbara was born Jan. 16, 1944, in Oklahoma City and was adopted by Walt and Laura Lafon of Amarillo. She graduated from Amarillo High School and attended Stephen F. Austin State University. She was a flight attendant for Delta Air Lines and later a member of the field training staff of Holiday Inns of America.

Barbara married Lamar Peek on May 8, 1976, in Memphis, Tenn. They moved to Amarillo in 1995 so she could be a caregiver to her mother. She spent the last several years of her life as a homemaker.

The family would like to thank BSA Hospice for their care and thoughtfulness.

Survivors include her husband, Lamar Peek; two stepchildren, Stephan Peek and LeAnn Carlson; four grandchildren, Jenna White, Rob Peek, Erin Peek and Lauren Grace Carlson; a great-grandson, Stephan Peek; two brothers, Robert Lafon of Houston and Lynn Lafon of Lubbock; and many nieces and nephews.

Sunnye Blackwell

DIMMITT - Sunnye Blackwell, 74, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008.

Celebration of life services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Clint Young officiating. Arrangements are by Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt.

Sunnye was born July 6, 1934, to Bernard and Ruth Brown in Hart. Sunnye attended Dimmitt High School and graduated in 1952. She attended business college in Plainview and El Paso.

Sunnye married Elmo Blackwell on June 30, 1956, in Dimmitt. Sunnye was not only a loving wife and mother, but a successful businesswoman and a wonderful "Granny" and "Gran."

Survivors include her husband, Elmo Blackwell; two sons, Michael Blackwell and wife Jennifer of Littleton, Colo., and Jim Blackwell and wife Jo Lynn of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; a daughter, Suanne Blackwell-Bliss and husband Matt of Dimmitt; her mother, Ruth Brown of Dimmitt; a brother, DeWayne Brown of Hart; six granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.

Mollie Axe

PADUCAH - Mollie Axe, 93, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Christian Church with the Rev. Jerry Don McClendon officiating. Burial will be in Paducah Garden of Memories Cemetery by Seigler Funeral Home.

Mollie was born Aug. 19, 1915, in Nacogdoches to Lynn Chester and Sarah Lou Chapman Hanks. In 1937, she married Albert E. Axe and was a member of First Christian Church.

Survivors include a sister, Patricia Richards of Hobbs, N.M.

TULIA - Natalie Marie Kimbrough, infant daughter of Francis Aguero and Justin Kimbrough, died Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, in Amarillo.

Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Rose Hill Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.

Survivors include her parents; her grandparents, Norma and Bobby Aguero of Odessa, Linda Culwell of Tulia and Monty Kimbrough of El Paso; and her great-grandparents, Elli Moya of Plainview, Naomi Rhodes of Childress and John and Helen Kimbrough of Spade.

Leonard "Carl" Laughery

BORGER - Leonard "Carl" Laughery, 64, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2008.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Bunavista Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Hensley, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Carl was the music director at Bunavista Baptist Church for the last four years. He had been an Elvis impersonator for the last 12 years.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra; two daughters, Kim Larker of Borger and Kelli Jones of Hendersonville, Tenn.; a son, Kacey Laughery of Murphy; his "adopted son," Michael Casey of Borger; three brothers, Don Laughery and Ernie Key, both of Fritch, and Charles Key of Sanford; and eight grandchildren.

Glenn Warren McLain

WELLINGTON - Glenn Warren McLain, 86, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2008.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in North Fairview Cemetery with Larry Adams, Charles Darter Jr. and Richard Sims officiating. Arrangements are by Adams Funeral Home.

Mr. McLain was born Oct. 23, 1921, in Childress to Ezra Z. and Daisy K. McLain. He was a leader in Boy Scouts of America for more than 40 years and is fondly remembered by many men who had the privilege of training under his leadership.

He served in the Army Air Forces, attended the University of Texas at Arlington and was a resident engineer for TxDOT for 40 years. He was a member of First Christian Church.

He married LaVerne White on May 5, 1940, in Childress, and she died 1990. He married Ceil Hix in October 1991 in Childress, and she died in 2007.

He also was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Glenna; and a son, Glynn Ross McLain.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Lynn Ross and Ann McLain of Tres Ritos, N.M., Chester Maurice and Phyllis McLain of Fort Worth, and Teddy Ray and Jerri McLain of Lubbock; a brother and his wife, Steven and Takako McLain of Dupont, Wash.; a sister and her husband, Rheba and John Fletcher of Lake Kiowa; nine grandchildren, Tiji Falcon, Amy Woodfin, Ross McLain, Pam Richards, Randy McLain, Chad Johnston, Kristi Velasquez, Cody McLain and Chad McLain; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Boy Scout Troop 432 in Wellington.

Jimmie Charles Sargent

STINNETT - Jimmie Charles Sargent, 74, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, in Pampa.

Services will be in Stinnett Church of Christ with Jim York, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Stinnett Cemetery by Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Mr. Sargent was a member of Stinnett Church of Christ, where he was very involved in everyday duties. He loved his grandkids and great-grandkids.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline; a son, Charlie Sargent of Stinnett; a daughter, Carol Trolinger of Skellytown; two brothers, Darrell J. Sargent of Skellytown and Kenneth Wayne Sargent of Amarillo; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Lubbock Children's Home Foundation, P.O. Box 2449, Lubbock, TX 79408; or a favorite charity.
