Part of "Engineering Better Careers. Engineering Better Environments."
Program to Support Students and Campus, and Attract Graduates to HVAC
Industry
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif., Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Jim Pape, Trane's vice
president of commercial business in the U.S. west territory, will speak to
students, faculty and university leaders at California Polytechnic State
University (Cal Poly) on Oct. 9 as part of Trane's Engineering Better
Careers. Engineering Better Environments. program.
While on campus, Pape will present on sales engineering as an alternate
career path for students who want to think outside the cubicle. Details of
the presentation are:
When: Thursday, Oct. 9 at 11 a.m.
Where: California Polytechnic State University, Advanced Technology
Laboratory
"Sales engineering or technical sales offers an alternate career path
for students who want to use their engineering expertise and interpersonal
skills to enjoy the independence, excitement and financial rewards of a
successful sales career -- and avoid a 'desk job'," said Pape. "In these
tough economic times, technical sales remains a hot job field for the right
candidates," he said.
While on campus, Pape will meet with engineering student leaders,
faculty members and university leadership to listen, learn and discuss the
issues that are important to them. Key points he will address range from
the future of the HVAC industry to green building and energy efficiency.
Pape explained that there is a strong need for entry-level employees in
the field. "Unless we attract new talent, the industry's aging workforce
will lead to negative job growth by 2012."
The Engineering Better Careers. Engineering Better Environments.
program was created in response to the impending engineer shortage. By the
year 2015, the HVAC industry will be short roughly 700,000 engineers with
more than 70 percent of energy services companies expecting their future to
be impacted by shortages of skilled personnel.
At Cal Poly, Trane has provided speakers, donated software for
classroom use and has employees that are actively involved on
boards/councils.

about real world engineering and business issues and the impact that
engineering students can have today. When leaders aren't visiting, Trane
