Presentation: Next Generation Nuclear Plants and Material Issues

September 28, 2010
Nuclear power is considered a viable option to supply energy to the world without causing climate change. In this presentation, Dr. Çolak will discuss existing reactor technologies in the context of current operational practice and limitations and introduce the need and expectations for future nuclear power technologies. Commencement May 14, 2010    The first 5 graduates of the Nuclear Engineering Minor program are pictured here.     From left: William Allen, Dr. Rasool Kenarangui, Collin Garner, Inyang Iwot, Cole Grandjean, Dr. Erian Armanios, Dr. Lynn Peterson, Cong-Tam (Michael) Nguyen.

Workshop on Nuclear Engineering April 23, 2010 The Workshop was designed for students interested in finding out more about nuclear energy and what UT Arlington has to offer in courses and facilities. Those interested in pursuing a minor in Nuclear Engineering in Fall 2010 were especially encouraged to attend. The workshop attracted 26 students, pictured here on a lunch break.

During Engineers week on Monday February 14, 2010 the nuclear engineering program along with the departmental displays had its first booth ever during the display event.  Then on Tuesday  February 15, 2010, during Student Organization Displays and Activities,  there was a signup booth for recruitment to establish an American Nuclear Society (ANS) student chapter at UT Arlington.

The new minor in nuclear engineering was the topic at the Arlington Technology Association meeting Wednesday, February 3, 2010 in Nedderman Hall. Making the presentation, which described why the program is a success and what lies ahead for students in this growing field, are, from left, Dr. Ratan Kumar, undergraduate advisor and senior lecturer in mechanical engineering; Dr. Rasool Kenarangui, senior lecturer in electrical engineering; and Dr. Lynn Peterson, senior associate dean and professor in computer science and engineering.
