Materials Expert Joins Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering

Dragos-Stefan Dancila, Ph.D., formerly with the Georgia Institute of Technology, has joined the Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Department at The University of Texas at Arlington as an associate professor. He has six years of teaching experience in both the undergraduate and graduate levels. At UT Arlington, his focus will be on engineering innovations in wind turbine technology.

Dr. Dancila received his master’s and doctoral degrees from Georgia Tech after earning an aeronautical engineer degree at the Polytechnic Institute in Bucharest, Romania. He was a post-doctoral fellow for a year before joining the Georgia Tech faculty as an assistant professor and teaching courses in structures, aerodynamics and aerospace vehicle performance. He also developed three new courses and revised another.

Dr. Dancila’s research is concentrated in the areas of composite and smart materials and structures, inflatable space structures, piezoelectrics, rotorcraft and manned/unmanned airship technologies. He holds three US patents and has applied for another. He is a pilot with glider and single-engine-land ratings.

In addition to his teaching experience, Dr. Dancila has also formed two companies dealing with airship technology and composite materials for use in aeronautical and prosthetic applications.
