The Forefront of Discovery. UTA is classified as a Research University/High Activity by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. University-wide expenditures for engineering research are more than $45 million a year. Some of the projects currently under way include creating artificial limb technology to help veterans return to a more normal life, developing biohazard-detecting microbots for the Department of Defense, designing video games to help children with cerebral palsy improve their motor skills, developing new ways to harness the regenerative potential of stem cells, and manufacturing a system that converts natural gas to jet fuel.
