November 18, 2015: Drs. Alaimo, Ingram, Rambsy, and Roemer participated in a panel discussion in Preston Hall 211. The topic: "Navigating MLA: Successfully Attending the National Convention as a Grad Student." Panelists shared strategies and advice (what to see, to do, etc.). The 2016 MLA Convention is in Austin, Texas.
November 2015: Native American History Month included two events on campus. On Nov. 11 from 7:00-9:00 p.m., Paul McKenzie-Jones gave a talk about Clyde Warrior, a prominent American Indian Movement leader. Warrior was an advocate for Native rights. On Nov. 17 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in College Hall, Silver Medal of Honor Recipient and WWII Navajo Code Talker, Sam Holiday, was a special guest speaker.
October 7, 2015: Dr. Wendy Faris is now Professor Emerita Wendy Faris. The honor was made official at an Oct. 7 event at the University Center. The new status acknowledges Dr. Faris's scholarly accomplishments and her commitment to UTA.
October 13, 2014: Jaswinder Bolina read from his poetry as part of the visiting speakers series.
February 20th, 2014: Former English major Shaun Hamill has been offered a full fellowship for Fall 2014 into the prestigious Iowa Writers' Workshop. The acceptance rate for the Iowa Writers' Workshop is approximately 2% of all applications.
February 13th, 2014: As part of the Visiting Writers Series for 2013-14, Marilyn Chin came to UTA's campus on 13 February. She performed some of her poetry and tales, and, after her reading, autographed copies of her books for the audience.
February 12th, 2014: Bethany Morian has won the Hall-Kohlfeldt Scholarship from UTA's Southwest Study Center to do archival research on one of the early journals that published works by American Indian authors. She will be traveling to the journal's archive at Brown University.
February 10th, 2014: Graduate student Todd Womble has published "Windswept and Scattered: Place and Identity in Larry McMurtry’s The Last Picture Show"
December 20th, 2013: Professor Ken Roemer has been selected as one of the two UTA nominees for the UT System Academy of Distinguished Teachers.
December 18th, 2013: Dr. Desiree Henderson has been selected as a 2014-2015 UT Arlington Faculty Fellow.
December 17th, 2013: Names of English graduates for the December 2013 graduation (PhD, MA, and BA degrees).
December 6th, 2013: Graduate and Undergraduate students are now registering for Spring 2014 classes. Undergrduate course descriptions and graduate descriptions are available. Wintermester 2013/14 course descriptions are ready as well.
November 6th, 2013: Dr. Peggy Kulesz spoke on the topic "Not So Distant: Collaboration and Community in Online Education" in the 6th floor parlor of the Central Library. Dr. Kulesz's talk was part of UT Arlington Libraries' Focus on Faculty Speaker Series.
November 2nd, 2013: Dr. Kenneth Roemer served as group leader for ENGL 6333 students (and family and friends) for a tour of Whitehawk, the grassroots sustainability intentional community established in the late 1970s outside of Denton, Texas.
September 27th, 2013: Dr. Cedrick May is cited in a Sept. 27 New York Times article entitled "Technology and the College Generation." Here is an excerpt: "He [Dr. May] soon learned that the students did not know he had changed the reading assignment because they did not check their e-mail regularly, if at all. To the students, e-mail was as antiquated as the spellings 'chuse' and 'musick' in the works by Cotton Mather and Jonathan Edwards that they read on their electronic books. 'Some of them didn’t even seem to know they had a college e-mail account,' Dr. May said. Nor were these wide-eyed freshmen. 'This is considered a junior-level class, so they’d been around,' he said."
September 15th, 2013: The International Association of Environmental Philosophers will meet in October in Eugene, Oregon. Part of the conference in Oregon will be a special session devoted to responses to Dr. Stacy Alaimo's book Bodily Natures: Science, Environment, and the Material Self (Indiana UP, 2010). Dr. Alaimo will attend the conference and act as a respondent to the session.
August 29th, 2013: Dr. Desiree Henderson has been named features editor of Legacy: A Journal of American Women Writers.
August 28th, 2013: Dr. Laura Kopchick and Dr. Tim Richardson have work published in the latest issue of Archeopteryx.
August 20th, 2013: Professor Tim Richardson has published a book entitled Contingency, Immanence, and the Subject of Rhetoric.
August 18th, 2013: Dr. Wendy Faris is a contributor in the latest issue of PMLA (May 2013). She is among several scholars commenting on the work of Carlos Fuentes.
August 17th, 2013: Dr. Amy Tigner has been granted tenure and promotion to Associate Professor.
August 10th, 2013: The department is pleased to announce that Jo Ward has been hired as the new Coordinator of Developmental English.
May 9th, 2013: New Native American Scholarship Opportunities Announced

August 8, 2013: The Early Modern Studies Journal has been redesigned.
June 1, 2013: After a national search, Dr. Bruce Krajewski is the new departmental chair. He is the first 12-month chair in the College of Liberal Arts.

September 20th, 2011: Professor Stacy Alaimo's book, Bodily Natures: Science, Environment, and the Material Self has won the 2011 Association for the Study of Literature & Environment (ASLE) award for the "Best scholarly work of ecocriticism."
