ENGL 2303 - Literature and Science

In this course we will read scientific and literary texts in tandem, to see how science creates narratives and fictions for itself and also how literature adapts and critiques scientific concepts. Our readings will be mainly nineteenth- and twentieth-century British and US texts—poems, plays, short stories, essays, and novels. Our aim is to come to some understanding of the cultural functions of both science and literature.
