Welcome to UTA’s English Department! To join it is to give yourself the chance to enjoy and seriously study the best literature in the world, as well as to be trained in outstanding traditions in rhetoric and writing of all kinds. The department stands out for its excellent professors, including award-winning teachers and researchers with national and international reputations who also pay close attention to their students’ progress and success. Courses range widely within the increasingly diverse field of English studies, including such topics as modern and contemporary literature in the US, Britain, and throughout the world, multicultural literatures of the US, Medieval and Renaissance literature and rhetoric, including Shakespeare, special fields of study such as environmental literature and film, postcolonial studies, gender studies, creative and expository writing, rhetorical theory and composition, and media studies. Our students go on to careers in many fields: teaching, journalism, law, business, government, media, and many more.
