Journey to Shiloh
Henry, Will. Journey to Shiloh. 1960. New York: Bantam, 1963.
Seven teenage boys set out from West Texas early in 1862 with the intention of offering their services in Richmond as Confederate cavalrymen. They face many tests and adventures before they are literally sidetracked in Mississippi and swept up into Braxton Bragg's army as it marches on Pittsburg Landing. After the battle of Shiloh, the decimated Concho County Comanches flee as deserters from Bragg's jealous wrath.
An interesting Western novel that segues from picaresque cowboy tale to a depiction of the horrors of Civil War combat.
