ENGL 3300-002 Sport Literature Spring 2008 Term Paper
to the syllabus
Your term paper is due Thurs 1 May. Length range is 8-10 pages. Each student will write on a different book.
Some sources for suggestions might include (but are certainly not limited to):
Your term paper will be a critical survey of a literary sport book. Your book may be a novel, a play, or a work of literary nonfiction.
The paper must be in MLA style. Every source must be documented and every quotation must be accurately cited.
Your paper should:
- Describe the book, with concise summary of plot or story-line.
- Give some information about the author that helps place the book in the context of his or her career.
- Offer a synopsis of critical reaction to the book, from reviews, scholarly articles, or other critical sources.
- Connect the book in a synthetic way to the general themes of sport literature that we have observed in our ten-item common reading list (or in other sport-lit reading you've done).
You will present the main content of your paper in a seminar presentation to the class some time in April. Your attendance at these meetings is mandatory (you want to be an audience for your peers, just as they are an audience for you).
