Useful Tips

Transfer students might want to pay special attention to numbers 1, 3, 4, and 5, as well as the following note:

In order to encourage students to graduate in a generously timely manner, there is a rule called the "floating 45 hour" limit. What this means is that students who take classes after they have completed minimum hours on their degree plans + 45 hrs will be charged out-of-state tuition. All hours attempted (W's, F's, Z's, NP's are included) from any public higher education institution including a community college, a junior college and a four-year college will count.

All students who begin Fall 2006 or after will have a floating 30 hrs beyond which they will have to pay out of state tuition.

This is important for those of you who think that there aren’t any consequences to making a habit of withdrawing from classes since it doesn’t affect your GPA.

  1. Remember that only 72 hours, plus 4 activity hours, from a community college can be used toward your degree.
  2. Consult the in-depth descriptions of each semester’s courses under course offerings before planning your semester since these descriptions offer more specific information than those in the catalog. They can be found on each department page under "Quick Links".
  3. Try not to come in at the very end or the very beginning of any semester since the advising office is busy during those times of year.
  4. Bring transcripts from other colleges if they have not already been evaluated by the Admissions Office.
  5. Remember, not all courses accepted by, or taken at, UTA will fulfill specific requirements toward your degree plan.
  6. If you are planning to earn your teacher certification, the College of Education and Health Profressions website is a good place to start.
  7. Grade replacements or grade exclusions are ways to help you improve your GPA. Depending on a variety of factors, only one of these options may be available.
