Submission Guidelines

Z Nine features original poetry, fiction, nonfiction and graphic-arts. Z Nine does not offer a print version of the e-zine. In addition, please note that our limited budget does not allow for payment of works accepted for publication. We request only first electronic rights to material published here.

We do not read during the months of June and July - we will begin accepting submissions for the next issue on August 15 -
deadline for fall submissions is October 15, 2003.

We will respond to all submissions within six weeks of the submission deadline.

Submissions should be sent to: znine@uta.edu

All work must be submitted as a Microsoft Word attachment. Other formats will not be opened. Please indicate the genre to which you are submitting on the subject line of your email and include a short (no more than 30 words), third-person bio in the body of the email. We accept simultaneous submissions, but would like to be notified immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere.

Fiction:
We are interested in the unique voice presented in a clear, concise manner. While we are open-minded, gratuitous violence and/or sex are not acceptable. We consider short fiction up to 7,500 words. Submissions should be double-spaced with one inch margins all around. The author's name and a page number must appear on all pages.

Poetry:
All verse forms and subjects are considered. Originality is important to us. We will accept 3-5 poems per submission. Poetry should be single spaced with the author's name and a page number on each page.

Nonfiction:
We are interested in "creative nonfiction" of any kind. We do not publish academic work, but we are interested in essays about writers and the craft of writing. We consider works of non-fiction up to 7,500 words in length. Submissions should be double-spaced with one inch margins all around. The author's name and a page number must appear on all pages.

Interviews:
We publish interviews with writers and editors. Please query first.

Photography and Graphic Arts:
Z Nine will also publish works by one visual artist per issue, including photographs and prints. Media should be submitted in jpeg format only and images may not be larger than 320 X 412 (pixels). Please submit 5-8 images for consideration.
