Two Faculty Positions THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT ARLINGTON The Department of Civil Engineering (CE) at the University of Texas at Arlington (UT Arlington) invites applicants for two full-time faculty positions at the Full Professor or the Associate Professor level with tenure. Exceptional candidates at the tenure-track Assistant Professor level will also be considered. The positions are in the following areas: (1) Environmental: Candidates are sought with specialty in one of the following general areas: water and wastewater treatment and modeling, storm water treatment and modeling, and industrial and hazardous waste treatment. Specific expertise within one of these general areas is expected, with a preference for expertise within the context of municipal systems in large urban areas and sustainable development. (2) Water Resources/Hydraulics: Candidates are sought with specialty in water resources, hydrology and hydraulics including, but not limited to: surface water and ground water hydrology, watershed BMPs, distributed modeling, radar hydrology and remote sensing, GIS applications, stochastic and probabilistic techniques. The degree requirements are completion of a BS degree in Civil Engineering or closely related areas and a Ph.D. degree in a Civil Engineering area. Expected start date for the position is Fall 2008. P.E. licensure or the ability to obtain one within a few years is required. Industrial experience is preferred, but not necessary. Candidates should be committed to seeking, obtaining and conducting sponsored research, publishing their findings in peer-reviewed journals, dedication to teaching excellence, and active participation in professional service. The CE Department at UT Arlington is located at the center of the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) Metroplex, the largest non-port metropolitan area in the U.S. with more than 5 million population. Excellent recreational, entertainment and cultural facilitates, modern shopping complexes and professional sports organizations are located in Arlington (population 365,000) and the surrounding areas. Arlington is the current home of the Texas Rangers baseball team and the future home of the Dallas Cowboys football team. DFW International Airport is within 15 minutes of the UTA campus, and is the hub for major airlines with direct routes to most main national and international destinations. The CE program is the only one of its kind at a public university in the DFW region, offering ample employment opportunities for graduates. The UT Arlington College of Engineering is one of the largest engineering colleges in Texas. The University is located on a modern 400-acre campus with an enrollment of over 25,000, and is part of the UT System. The Department provides stimulating study and research atmosphere for both students and faculty. The engineering facilities provide state of the art laboratories, class rooms and computing facilities. The CE department is among one of the fastest growing departments within the College of Engineering with 19 full-time faculty members and 460 undergraduate and graduate students. The CE Department is in an upward trend. The student enrollment increased by about 20% and external research funding increased by about 100% over the last two years. New initiatives with the significant industrial base in the DFW metroplex area are being pursued. Further expansion of the undergraduate and the graduate programs are being explored. Multi-disciplinary research/education centers in areas of national/international critical needs are being established. One of these is the UT Arlington Center for Structural Engineering Research, envisioned as one of the largest structural testing facility in the nation. During this unprecedented expansion, the CE Department is firmly committed to maintaining high levels of teaching/service excellence with significant growth in research efforts. The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Texas at Arlington anticipates hiring an Earth Systems Scientist. The tenure-track appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor level, starting September 2007. Appointment at the Associate or Full Professor ranks may be considered for highly qualified candidates. We encourage applications from candidates with interdisciplinary research interests that integrate data obtained from atmospheric, oceanic, terrestrial, or glacial processes of modern and/or ancient systems. Areas of expertise may include, but are not limited to: (1) climatology and/ or paleoclimatology, (2) environmental geochemistry, (3) surficial processes, and (4) oceanography and/or paleoceanography. The ideal candidate will develop an active research program designed to understand regional to global-scale systems. Priority will be given to applicants who complement existing strengths in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. Successful candidates are expected to establish independent research programs, obtain outside funding and contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching.
