Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does the special events center compare in size to other area venues?
A: Texas Hall at UT Arlington has just over 2,700 fixed seats. Nokia Theater at Grand Prairie, a concert venue not suitable for athletics, seats 6,350. Daniel-Meyer Coliseum at Texas Christian University seats 7,166. Moody Coliseum at Southern Methodist University seats 9,000.

Q: Will the building look like the current rendering?
A: Yes. The current images represent the final design approved by The University of Texas System Board of Regents on Nov. 12, 2009.

Q: In addition to men's and women's basketball, will other UT Arlington athletic teams also play in the special events center?
A: Yes, the UT Arlington women's volleyball team will also have the opportunity to play in the special events center. In addition, the center will provide an ideal location for invitational and tournament events.

Q: How will operating expenses for the special events center be covered?
A: In December 2004, the UT Arlington Student Congress unanimously championed an initiative that established student fees to help support operating expenses for the center. These student fees will not be assessed until the center is open.

Q: How will the construction affect parking on campus?
A: It's too early to say. But we expect to have a formalized parking plan sometime in the near future.

Q: Once the special events center is completed, what will happen to Texas Hall?
A: Texas Hall, built in 1965, is a combination proscenium theater and performing arts center. With the growth of the UT Arlington, the City and the entire region, it has evolved into a multi-purpose center that has accommodated University-sponsored athletic events, concerts, plays, and lectures plus community such as recitals, meetings, summer camps, and local theater productions. After the opening of the special events center, Texas Hall will return to its best purpose as a performing arts center for University and public events alike.

Q: As the building project moves forward, where can I go for updated information?
A: This Web site will be updated throughout the design and construction process.
