Censorship is not unique to the US. Our

Professor Lonny Harrison in the Russian
Section of the Modern Languages Department,
offers a look at the subject of government repression
of reading, and examines the practice
of and results surrounding state-banning of
books in Russia and the former USSR. Focus on
Faculty is a library speakers series and our
first talk of the 2012-13 year is at noon on
October 3, in the Central Library sixth floor
parlor and features a talk by Assistant Professor
Lonny Harrison, the Russian Section Head
of the Department of Modern Languages at
UTA. When Books Go Underground: Censorship and
Media Control in Russia addresses the role
of censorship in Russian cultural life, and how
some of the great works of political and artistic
expression flourished in spite of it.
