 For 30 years Banned Books Week has served to celebrate 
 the freedom to read and brings together 
 the entire book community: librarians, booksellers, 
 publishers, journalists, teachers, 
 and readers of all types, in shared support 
 of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, 
 even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular.

 Events 
 during Banned Books Week include the Focus 
 on Faculty Lecture on Oct. 3 by Lonny Harrison 
 of the Russian Section of the Modern Languages 
 Department, speaking about When Books Go 
 Underground: Censorship and Media Control in 
 Russia; the Virtual Read-Out; book and comic 
 book exhibits; virtual exhibits with contributions 
 by library staff students and any library 
 users who wish to participate. Look for the 
 table on the ground floor of Central Library 
 for more information about the Virtual Read-Out, 
 about Read Banned Book posters, and find 
 the graffiti white boards nearby. \n
