Development of a New Space Power Engine
(College of Engineering)
The Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Department welcomes Dr. Terry Simon of the University of Minnesota. Present power systems for deep space probes use thermoelectric convertors, with around 5-8 percent efficiencies. In this talk, Dr. Simon will introduce the Sterling engine, whose efficeincy is four or more times that of thermoelectrics. He will also describe flow and heat transfer measurements and analyses he did in support of its development. Everyone welcome.
