The Long and Windy Road: Exploring Rotorcraft Airflow
(College of Engineering)

The Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Department welcomes Mark Dreier, staff engineer in the Simulation Modeling Group at Bell Helicopter Textron. The swirling eddies emanating from a lifting rotor generate linear and angular forces for which a pilot must compensate. In this presentation, Mr. Dreier describes the many methods that rotorcraft aerodynamicists use to model the motion of the air - from the simplest momentum theory to complex CFD techniques. Everyone welcome.
