Capable Millirobots through Folding and Gripping
(College of Engineering)

The Automation & Robotics Research Institute hosts a talk by Professor Ronald Fearing of the Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science at the University of California - Berkeley. Centimeter-scale robots will create opportunities to manipulate, sense and explore a wide range of environments with greatly reduced cost and expanded capabilities. Professor Fearing will describe a fabrication process using laser micromachining of composites combined with folding operations to rapidly prototype light-weight mobile systems. These nanofibrillar structures are being designed to grip any smooth or rough surface, and can be useful in both locomotion and manipulation. Everyone welcome.
