Girlgeneering
(Summer Camp)
The goal of our Girlgeneering camp is to increase the interest of high ability young women in a career in engineering by combating stereotypes, creating connections, reducing the issue of competition for resources with boys, and demonstrating the real-world social impact of engineering. This one-week day camp will introduce middle school young women to the field of engineering by showing how engineering is connected to personal issues, social concerns, and community interests. The Girlgeneering camp is designed to provide young women with a broad exposure to the variety of engineering disciplines -- aerospace, biomedical, civil & environmental, computer science, electrical, materials science and mechanical -- plus related topics in chemistry and physics. Field trips to see engineering at area businesses and team projects supplement the classroom activities. This camp is limited to 50 students. The Girlgeneering camp is a 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. day camp with a Friday evening awards session. The program fees cover a participant's meals, insurance, project materials and activities.
