Sweetie Pie Exhibit Opening Night: Janet Morrow (Arts & Culture - UT Arlington and Community)
In this exhibition composed of works made of cast granulated sugar, artist Janet Morrow examines the notion of sweetness and our ambiguous reactions to it. How sweet is too sweet? Ultimately the sugar pieces serve as metaphors for our mortal existence; exquisitely precious but also quite perishable.
About the Artist:
Janet Morrow creates conceptual art, utilizing whatever combination of media is most appropriate to communicate the idea or insight. It is not possible to discuss influences on the artist's work without mentioning the progressive loss of her hearing and related difficulties with disequilibrium and vertigo. This recurring theme mirrors universal struggles with disability, isolation and otherness. In current work, she examines these issues and uses art as a means to facilitate a dialog with the viewer.
