"Molecular profile of peripheral nerve regeneration as a therapeutic discovery tool"

Edward Keefer, Ph.D.
Chief Neuroscientist,
Plexon Inc., Dallas, TX

Abstract: In the US, there are approximately 1.5 million new cases of traumatic peripheral nerve and spinal cord injuries annually. To address this issue, we developed a binary model of nerve repair that uses a growth/no-growth paradigm. Nerves are injured identically, and then reconstructed with either a short silicon conduit (8mm gap), which always regenerates, or a long silicone conduit (30mm gap).
