The Standard Model, Higgs Boson, Who Cares?
(Lectures/Talks)
The International Workshop on Future Linear Colliders (www.lcws12.org) will be held at UTA Oct. 22 - Oct. 26, 2012. The conference will draw hundreds of physicists from all over the world. As part of conference tradition, professor Steven Weinberg of the University of Texas at Austin, a Nobel Laureate, will give a public lecture at 7:30pm. He is one of the theorists responsible for the Standard Model and was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1979 along with S. Glashow and A. Salam. With the discovery of a Higgs-like boson at the Large Hadron Collider at the European Center for Nuclear and Particle Physics (CERN) in Geneva, professor Weinberg will put the discovery in context of the Standard Model, the theory of particle physics, and give some perspectives on what the completion of the theory means to every day lives.
