'A Study of Water' and 'What Once Was a Forest'
(Arts & Culture - UT Arlington and Community)

Through documentary photography and sculptural representation, Untitled reveals an intimate look into the rites and rituals of each of the respective artists' communities. As the daughter of Holocaust survivors, Loli Kantor brings a deeply personal interest, as well as unique sensibility to her bodies of work. Through research into her familial past, she shines a light on the reemergence of Jewish life and culture in central and eastern Europe. Engaging with an older generation of Jews who remained in Eastern Europe after the Holocaust and the fall of the Soviet Union, Kantor's images show the circle of Jewish life: the aging Holocaust survivors, new monuments erected, and the reexamination and repair of old synagogues and cemeteries. Born in Hiroshima Japan, Hiroko Kubo's early work displays a strong influence from indigenous religious artifacts all over the world, and relate to her exploration of both the diversity and commonality of human ideology across cultures. Currently, she seeks to express philosophical concepts on the human mind through the use of forms that combine boldness and sensitivity.
