The UT Arlington Libraries are sponsoring a new outreach and support program for students called "Paws for Finals." This program will allow students to interact with registered therapy dogs as a means of reducing the stress and anxiety that final exams can induce.
Studies have proved that petting a friendly dog reliably lowers blood pressure and stress-related hormones in the blood, slows the heart rate, regularizes breathing, and releases tension from muscles. These effects can be achieved after only 5 to 24 minutes of interaction with a cheerful pup.
Students (and faculty/staff) who need a study/work break filled with unconditional love are encouraged and invited to stop by the second floor of the Central Library at the Research Help Desk (north end of the building) December 1-9, 2012, from 10 AM to noon and from 2-4 PM (please check for daily schedule updates at http://libguides.uta.edu/paws). The UT Arlington Libraries are proud to partner with Paws With Partners registered therapy dog volunteer group [https://www.facebook.com/PetPartnerPawsWithPartners] for this program.
