Vengeance Is Mine: The Scandalous Love Triangle That Triggered The Boyce-Sneed Feud, by Bill Neal
BILL NEAL practiced criminal law in West Texas for twenty years as a prosecutor and twenty as a defense attorney, then turned to writing. His books illustrate how Texas law and society matured together via early cases and trials. His latest book, Vengeance Is Mine: The Scandalous Love Triangle That Triggered The Boyce-Sneed Feud, examines a one-hundred year old feud that the families would not discuss until very recently. Starting with "a torrid sex scandal at the core of a love triangle," Neal introduces Lena Snyder Sneed, her lover Al Boyce, Jr., and Lena's arrogant and vindictive husband, John Beal Sneed, and the involuntary committal of Lena by her husband in an insane asylum for "moral insanity," her rescue by Boyce, and the subsequent deaths of both Boyce and his father at the hands of Sneed. Neal's book tells "a story of the written laws of Texas struggling to gain ascendency over justice administered by Judge Winchester and Judge Lynch, as well as by the self-help justice condoned by the Honor Code's unwritten laws."
A reception and book signing follow the talk. Friends of the Library meetings are free and open to all. More information...
