Friends of the Library - Carmen Goldthwaite on Texas Dames
(Arts & Culture - UT Arlington and Community)

Carmen Goldthwaite, author of the book _Texas Dames: Sassy and Savvy Women Throughout Lone Star History_, will speak to the Friends of the UTA Library on Friday, September 13, 2013, at 7:30pm in the Central Library sixth floor parlor.

Carmen Goldthwaite is a 7th generation Texan who writes and tells the stories about the Texas she loves for western lore magazines such as _Fort Worth_ and _American Cowboy_. Fascinated by the distaff roles in Texas, she writes Texas women's stories for anthologies, including _The Way West_ (2005) and _Wild Women of the Old West_ (2003). Her newest book was published in 2012.

Her investigative reporting led to statewide awards and to syndication with Scripps-Howard News Service. She is a member of the Society of Professional Journalists and Western Writers of America, Investigative Reporters & Editors, Texas Press Association and Texas State Historical Association.

Goldthwaite teaches in SMU's creative writing program and in classes at her home, and was designated a "Writer-in-Residence" at her alma mater, the TCU Schieffer School of Journalism, in the Texas Center for Community Journalism. She teaches and speaks to conferences and organizations about writing and publishing in addition to opportunities to "talk Texan about Texans."
