Talking Dictionaries for Indigenous Languages (Seminars/Workshops)
What goes in a dictionary? How can indigneous community members come up with new words in your language? How can dictionaries be used to help learners and set up language lessons for teaching? UT Arlington's Native American Languages Lab mobile laptops and team members are hitting the road to train participants to work with the software and create dictionaries and teaching materials onsite in Tahlequah, OK. The workshop will focus on learning a free dictionary-making software (FLEx- Fieldworks Language Explorer). A number of tribes have used FLEx to create online dictionaries with audio and pictures or to create bilingual stories. Local languages will be used in the training materials for the workshop, which is part of Northeastern State University's Symposium on the American Indian. More information...
