Black History Month - Robert Edison - "From King to Obama" - Lectures/Talks (Central Library sixth floor parlor)
DISD's Robert Edison to Lecture at UT Arlington In celebration of Black History Month the UT Arlington African American Faculty and Staff Association are presenting a lecture by Robert Edison, Historian and Director of Social Studies for the Dallas Independent School District. Edison will discuss "From King to Obama: The Historical Significance of the First African-American President" at noon, Friday, February 13, in the Central Library sixth floor parlor. The library is located at 702 Planetarium Place. A reception with light refreshments will follow the lecture. A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Robert Edison is a graduate of Southwestern Christian College in Terrell and East Texas State University in Commerce. He earned his M.S. degree in History at the University of Dallas and has taught and served as an administrator with the Dallas school system for over forty years. He has also directed the DISD's African American Cultural Heritage Center and the Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture in Charleston, South Carolina. Edison has won numerous awards for his teaching and community service, including Dallas Teacher of the Year in 1992, the Dallas NAACP's Juanita Craft Award in Education in 1985, three fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, and a Fulbright Fellowship to American University in Cairo, Egypt.
