Dr. Carla Amaro-Jiménez

Dr. Carla Amaro-Jiménez is an Assistant Professor of Bilingual/ESL Education in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). Prior to working in academia, Dr. Amaro-Jiménez worked as a bilingual teacher both in Cincinnati, Ohio, and in Costa Rica.

Her research has focused on issues related to equity in the schooling of bilingual, Latino students in U.S. public schools. She approaches equity from three interrelated areas: classroom instruction, teacher preparation and parental involvement. In her mixed-method studies she attempts to connect these three issues to these students' academic achievement.
