Susan Gehr


Susan Gehr has long worked to help document and revitalize the Karuk language, collecting more than a decade’s worth of notes and recordings of the northern California tribal language. Gehr, who is an enrolled tribal descendant of the Karuk Tribe, earned a master's in linguistics from the University of Oregon and a master's in library and information science, specializing in archives, from San José State University. In her current job as project archivist, she is processing a 200-box collection consisting mainly of Hupa, Karuk, Tolowa, and Yurok language materials for the Humboldt State University Library.
