Ryan Mackey


Ryan “Wahde” Mackey is a Cherokee traditionalist, storyteller, dancer, language specialist, immersion teaching assistant, and Cherokee language instructor. He has shared his expertise at conferences and in interviews on Cherokee culture and lifeways, including clan membership, spirituality, and identity. Over the last five years, Wahde has been developing and providing immersion classes for adults learning Cherokee as a second language. He has worked with curriculum development, lesson planning and implementation of the courses using modified versions of Total Physical Response, model conversational dialogues, and other participatory techniques.
