Eric N. Smith, Ph.D.

Eric was born in Oklahoma and grew up in Guatemala. He moved to Texas in 1992, and received his Ph.D. from UT Arlington, where he was a student under Dr. Jonathan Campbell. His research interest is rather diverse, but generally focuses on systematics, biogeography, and herpetology. Ultimately, he is interested in describing and understanding herpetological diversity, in particular at ecological hotspots, such as South and Central America, and southern Asia. Eric has a tremendous amount of field research experience, and has established a vast network of collaborators that has provided our lab with a broad spectrum of research possibilities. Apart from the research lab, he also spends too much time with Chester, his black lab.
