Other
information which may help you with your planning:
1. If you have a lab coat or apron,
please bring it with you. Depending upon the research lab in which you are
placed, you may not be allowed to wear shorts or sandals while in the lab.
2. If you wear contact lenses, please
bring your glasses (if you have a pair) and your safety goggles. If you do not have safety goggles, we
will provide those for you. Some of
the research labs may recommend wearing glasses rather than contact lenses
while working in the lab, since some fumes and vapors can be very irritating to
the contact lens wearer.
3. The swimming pool and activities
building will be available for you to use, so bring your swim wear and other
active sports wear.
4. Sometimes the air conditioning in
the classrooms and labs is a little cooler than the Òcomfort zoneÓ which means
that a sweater may be desirable.
ÒDress clothesÓ will probably not be necessary.
5. If you wish to leave campus to
attend religious services, your parent must sign a ÒPermission to
Leave CampusÓ form. Although we
encourage all of our Welch Scholars to stay at UTA on the weekends to
participate in various activities, if you intend to go home for a particular
weekend or if you need to leave the campus for any reason, your parent must

6. If you wish to bring a computer,
the dorm rooms are equipped with Ethernet connections, and most buildings on
campus (including the
7. Bring enough money for
laundry. You may want to have some
spending money, but you donÕt need a large amount of cash, since meals and
activities are paid for by the Welch Summer Scholar Program. You would only need money for
entertainment not sponsored by the program and for food not included in the
regularly scheduled meals.
