Quiz or Absence Replacement Opportunities:

By attending and responding in writing to one of the eligible events, activities and/or exhibits, you may replace a quiz or an absence.

Number of quizzes and/or absences replaced. 

You may replace a TOTAL of two. This does NOT mean two quizzes AND two absences. It means either two quizzes or two absences or one quiz, one absence.

Eligible Events:

1.Most of the ONE BOOK  events listed on the calendar: CLICK HERE TO READ ABOUT ONEBOOK AND EVENTS

    Simply attending a viewing of one of the films is NOT eligible, but if a discussion follows then it would count as eligible.

2.Any academic special lecture or presentation at UTA or other university.

How do you  earn the replacement?

1. Attend one of the events.

2. Obtain a program, handout, ticket or other documentation from the event, IF IT IS AVAILABLE.

3. Write a one page single spaced summary/response to the event. The quality of your writing, and the thinking that went into it, will influence the amount of points you earn.

4. Staple the documentation (explained in #2) to the summary/response. Make sure your name, course number and section are clearly printed on these documents. Turn these in by the last class meeting day in May (before the final exam).

5. If your summary/response is inadequate you may receive no points or absence replacement.

Why should I go to all this trouble for such few points?

1. Because you will be enriched by engaging with the world of ideas.

2. Because intellectually curious people seek opportunities to learn more.

3. Because you can! Aren't you lucky to live close to such a variety of fabulous offerings?

4. Because you may be borderline grade wise and need a few points to boost you over that dividing line.

5. Because you can make it a social outing with family, friends, colleagues and all of you will be better for having done this.
