Announcements

  • No class, Wednesday, July 17 or Monday, July 22
  • Test Two is moved to Monday, July 29
  • "Extra Credit"--Assignment points
    • Many class days, I will give you a writing or problem assignment. If you turn in an acceptable product by the beginning of the next class period, you will receive a grade of 100 for that assignment. If you do not turn in an acceptable product by the beginning of the next class period, you will receive a grade of 0 for that assignment. You must put your name in the upper-left hand corner (last name first) and the due date in the upper-right hand corner. I prefer typed assignments, but at a minimum it must be very legible. You will put it on the front desk as soon as you arrive (before the beginning of class).
    • At the end of the semester, I will average all of your assignment grades. If you have a final assignment grade of 100, I will add 5 points to your final average. 95 or above will receive 4 points. 90 or above 3 points. 85 or above 2 points. And 80 or above 1 point. There will be no deductions for grades below an 80.
  • If no student objects and if we will be exceeding one hour in class, we will take a TWO minute break. Students are welcome to step outside of class--however, all students must be in their seats at the end of TWO minutes.
  • It is the responsibility of every student to confirm that they are registered for this class.

  • All students need to bring a basic calculator (+, -, /, *, and sqrt) to class every day.

  • All students are strongly recommended to:

    • Use computers connected to the UTA network when downloading data from the ICPSR.

    • Use SPSS in the University Hall computer lab.
  • If you are taking the objective exams, you will need the "General Purpose Pearson NCS Answer Sheet--form no. 4521."  It is the larger form (8.5 x 11).

Assignments

  • Due Monday, June 10. Write two paragraphs summarizing the key points in the Gibson, Bingham article on Measuring Political Tolerance. This article is also linked in the "Politics as Science" outline.

  • If you are taking the objective exams, you will need the "General Purpose Pearson NCS Answer Sheet--form no. 4521."  It is the larger form (8.5 x 11).

Recommended/Required:

  • Math 1302 and 1308.  This course [3310] involved a high level of familiarity with statistics.  I had never taken a statistics course prior to this class.  Thus it hurt me tremendously.  However, after studying statistics and understanding the concepts, I made a B.
