Verification of Non-Filing Letter

If your 2018-2019 FAFSA is chosen for verification, you will be required to submit documentation to the UTA Office of Financial Aid to verify information reported on your FAFSA. 

If you, your spouse (if you are married), or your parents (if you are dependent) filed a 2016 federal income tax return, you will be required to submit a copy of the 2016 Tax Return Transcript from the IRS.

If a 2016 federal income tax return was not filed, you will be required to submit documentation to confirm the filing status and any income information (read below for instructions). 

Dependent StudentS

If you are a dependent student for financial aid purposes, and you and/or your parents did not file a 2016 federal income tax return, you must submit:

  • 2016 IRS Verification of Non-Filing Letter – Parent(s) Only
    • Fax or mail Form 4506-T to the IRS (click here for instructions)

Independent StudentS

If you are an independent student for financial aid purposes, and you and/or your spouse (if married) did not file a 2016 federal income tax return, you must submit:

  • 2016 IRS Verification of Non-Filing Letter – Student and/or Spouse
    • Fax or mail Form 4506-T to the IRS (click here for instructions)

The Form 4506-T must be submitted to the IRS to request a Verification of Non-Filing Letter. The UTA Office of Financial Aid does not accept the Form 4506-T.

You are able to request a Verification of Non-Filing Letter by:

  • Downloading the Form 4506-T and faxing or mailing it to the IRS (each person required to submit the letter must each submit their own Form 4506-T).

The 2016 IRS Verification of Non-Filing letter must be dated on or after October, 1, 2017 in order to be accepted but the UTA Office of Financial Aid.

UTA will not accept any Verification of Non-Filing Letters sent to our office directly from the IRS. You must submit the letter to our office once you receive it from the IRS. Please include the student's UTA ID on the letter. You can submit your letter via:
