Grants
Grants are funds that normally do not require repayment. Due to limited funds, most state grant funds may not be available to students who complete financial aid applications after the published priority dates.
Please complete a 2024-2025 FAFSA form, turn in all requested documents, and be admitted to UTA by May 1, 2024, in order to be considered for maximum grant funding for the 2024-2025 aid year.
Students who complete applications or are admitted after May 1 will receive a financial aid offer based on available funds at the time the application is completed.
Undergraduate students must enroll full-time to receive maximum grant funding. If a student enrolls less than full-time, most grants (including the Federal Pell Grant) will reduce based on the student's enrollment.
For undergraduate students, the only grant offered during the summer semester is Federal Pell Grant.
Graduate students must enroll at least half-time to qualify for state grant funding.
If a student does not attend a semester in which they have been offered grant funds, those grant funds cannot be transferred to a different semester.

Students participating in the Accelerated Online programs are only eligible for funding through the Federal Pell Grant, TEXAS Grant, and TPEG programs pending available funding.
Students participating in the Executive Master's of Business Administration (EMBA) program are not eligible for any grant funding.
UTA reserves the right to reduce or cancel the amount of institutional/state grant funds offered to students who receive other scholarship assistance, grant assistance or specific federal, state or institutional tuition waivers or other benefits that are designated to cover tuition and fees.
Federal Pell Grants: Undergraduate students seeking their first bachelor's degree who have an EFC between $0 and $6,656 may be eligible to receive the Federal Pell Grant during the 2023-2024 Aid Year. The amount a student can receive is based on a federally mandated formula approved by the United States Congress.
Students must enroll full-time to receive their full Pell Grant eligibility for the semester. If a student enrolls less than full-time, the Pell Grant will reduce accordingly based on the student's enrollment.
PLEASE NOTE: Not all students qualify to receive a Pell Grant for less than full-time enrollment. Please contact the Office of Financial Aid for any questions regarding how enrollment affects aid.
Students may not receive Federal Pell Grant funds from more than one college or university during the same semester. Students may receive Federal Pell Grants for up to 6 years of full-time study. Once a student receives Federal Pell Grant funds for 6 years, they have met the Lifetime Eligibility Usage (LEU) and are no longer eligible to receive grant funds through this program.
Summer Pell Grant Recalculation: All Summer 2023 Pell Grant amounts will be adjusted (decreased/increased) for all Summer enrollment changes (added/dropped courses) through July 7, 2023.
Federal Pell Grant Recalculation Date: For students enrolled in modular courses (for example, students enrolled in an Accelerated Online program or all students enrolled in a Summer term), universities are required to establish a Pell Grant Recalculation Date. After this established date each semester, no adjustments (increase or decrease) will be made to a student's Federal Pell Grant, unless they do not begin attendance in the course. Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG): These federal grants are offered to assist undergraduate students with exceptional financial need. Half-time enrollment (6 credit hours) is required to qualify for a disbursement but the offered grant amount will be reduced if enrolled less than full-time (12 credit hours).
Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant (IASG): A federal grant to qualifying students with a parent or guardian who died as a result of U.S. military service in Iraq or Afghanistan after September 11, 2001. If a student is eligible for a Federal Pell Grant, he or she cannot receive an IASG.

Texas Public Education Grants (TPEG): These grants are designated to pay tuition and fees and are available to both graduate and undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need. At least half-time enrollment is required to qualify for a disbursement, and undergraduate grants reduce based on enrollment.
Mav Grants: These grants are designated to pay tuition and fees and are available to both graduate and undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need who are bona fide Texas residents. At least half-time enrollment is required to qualify for a disbursement, and undergraduate grants reduce based on enrollment.
TEXAS Grants: These grants are available to undergraduate students who meet both specific academic criteria as well as demonstrated financial need based on available funding. Eligible students must be Texas residents, graduate from a public or accredited private high school in Texas no earlier than Fall 1998 or receive an Associate degree in May 2001 or later, must complete the recommended high school curriculum or its equivalent, and must not be convicted of a felony or a crime involving a controlled substance.
The FAFSA and TASFA priority date for first-time applicants is January 15.

The TEXAS Grant requires students to be enrolled in at least 9 credit hours to qualify for a disbursement.
Please Note: State grants cannot be combined. A student's full grant eligibility will be offered from one state grant fund.
Federal TEACH Grant: This grant is available to undergraduate and graduate students who plan to teach in designated shortage teaching areas at low income Title I schools. The student must teach at least four out of the eight years upon graduating or ceasing to be enrolled. Students may receive up to $3,772 per year, but the grant reverts to an Unsubsidized Direct Stafford Loan if the teaching obligation is not met.
