Getting Professional with MBA

Shaunda Dixon

More knowledge provides for a better understanding of things in today’s business world. That’s the way Shaunda Dixon had it figured. And she’s right.

Shaunda already had a job as finance manager for Ryder Integrated Logistics. But, she felt that she could improve things for herself by enrolling in the professional MBA program at the UT Arlington/Fort Worth Center.

“I wanted to increase my knowledge in the business world,” Shaunda explained. “I believe I will be a greater asset to my company by broadening my knowledge in different business functions.”

The professional MBA program is designed for professionals who are working full time. It is a 28-month course, taken in accelerated 5-, 6-, or 7-week sessions, and follows the same general curriculum requirements as the regular MBA program.

“I have already benefited from my MBA with the opportunity in finance,” said Shaunda, who controls the transportation costs for a major beverage manufacturer.

Classes in the program are “cohort” based as groups in the classes remain together over several semesters.

“The sharing of knowledge from different industries provided by my classmates was invaluable to the program,” she added.

Shaunda offered advice to those considering graduate school. “ Begin your education knowing what you would like to accomplish and complete that task. You are ultimately responsible for your aspirations and goals.”

UT Arlington’s Maverick nickname fits Shaunda. “I demonstrate pride in my school and in myself in all that I do. Sharing my experiences and expertise, education and otherwise is the way I get things done.”
